Without an HQ

Most of the seeds become food in the food-chain.
The buds. The future. The glorious opportunity to live and then pass on the gift of life to the next generation.
The Continental Divide. A lone bike and one senior photographer.

Without an HQ, who are you?

Let’s say you are not a refugee in Poland or elsewhere.

Let’s say you still “live” in your city or town.

Let’s say your city or town is decimated by Russian bombardments.

You have your HQ but you don’t.

Not everyone who is a refugee is displaced geographically.

You can be trapped in hell, without leaving your zip code.

Fly the friendly skies?

White and black birds on the water
Birds of a feather are now mixed company. Perhaps a rare, spontaneous food source changes all the rules.

United we stand. Divided we fall.

John Dickinson

Note: United Airlines had a brand motto: Fly the friendly skies. Between the birds’ photo, the word united, and what the world needs against Russia, today’s quote seems perfect.

You’d never know

war news
First Russian hyper-sonic missile fired on Ukraine today. The structural devastation to Ukrainian cities is sickening to watch. The civilian deaths, despicable.

You’d never know there is an horrific Russian invasion on Ukraine.

Watched the World Indoor Track & Field championships from Belgrade today.

Watching my second March madness College Basketball game in the background. Not a basketball fan, but love the scrappy fights that underdogs put up against higher ranked teams.

Three-million-plus Ukrainian refugees. Expecting that to potentially triple.

How is life so normal and peaceful almost everywhere and a hellish invasion and devastating bombardment continues into it’s fourth week?

Thank God for discipline

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy
Hate the war, love the warrior. Almost all Ukrainians must become warriors, even if they never held a gun in their hands. Almost all Ukrainians, willing or unwilling, are in a position where death is their ultimate sacrifice for their freedom.

Thank God for discipline.

Being organized at home means having prioritized priorities.

Safety is the non-negotiable. Learned this at Disney and why we (Disney) focus on it.

Every parent knows safety is number one with their child(ren).

Period.

Putin scares the world.

Putin scares even the most respected and most powerful militaries on the planet.

Then there are people you know who, eventually, maybe, scare you.

Fear nothing but God.

Thank you God, for the desire to be disciplined.

Advance and be recognized

ABC News Special screen
The enemy is somewhere between hard to see and entirely invisible. #GodPleaseHaveMercyOnUkraine

My father-in-law, John Zubek, fought in World War II.

He only ever shared two things:

  1. Shoot or be shot at.
  2. Advance and be recognized.

The first thing he shared was because i pried for some sort of wisdom from him before he died and it would be lost forever.

The second thing he shared, can’t recall the context on why it was shared, other than there were scary times when you didn’t know who was nearby. And the only way to verify it was to ask the person you couldn’t see to, “Advance and be recognized.“
