Why do you focus on being so organized?

Why do you focus on being so organized?

So that when the unexpected arrives i do not have to panic.

Bad things happen to everyone, including ‘good’ people.

Knowing this morning’s meeting is critical, i made my way upstairs much earlier than normal last night.

Good thing, i discovered something by accident. That led to us (me and a 15-year old) spending 45 minutes in deep conversation.

Did you know the Dictionary app provides easy internet access even if you have the internet turned off on an iPhone?

Me neither.

So to answer the question, being organized is a lot of work. Being disorganized is a lot of work too.

i guess that’s why.

Like the caterpillar, never saw the miracle coming

Caterpillar at home 2010.

Yesterday, because of my friend’s recovery from surgery (she’s staying with us), we didn’t go to Church nor did we go to Chapin’s YuGiOh tournament.

i also didn’t drive to the airport to fly to France.

Unexpectedly spent much more time on my Facebook Mid Life Celebration page than normal.

Being decently organized allowed for a crushed dream to morph into a huge blessing.

It was in my spontaneous responses to friends expressing their condolences that i became a stronger, wiser, happier person.

Like the caterpillar, never saw the miracle coming.

It went from one-minute to 20+ in a heartbeat

Mile High Montessori School, Denver

It went from one-minute to 20+ minutes in a heartbeat.

In a rare opportunity to catch our son’s teacher in a casual, relaxed moment, we went from the typical cursory conversation to her asking all about last week’s Denver trip.

Had texted her the photo above, in real time, during a 10-mile run through town.

What was incredibly stimulating were her questions. Which comes as no surprise, because she is an attorney by trade.

Rarer still, someone’s ability to challenge my thinking. LOVE when that happens.

It inspires me to remember that’s my most important differentiator amongst a sea of ‘professional speakers’.

Without this finely tuned filter, we waffle, suffer, and rob ourselves

Amway Grand Plaza Hotel entrance
On the road again – Amway Grand Plaza Hotel – travel can complicate life if we are disorganized.

We are presented with challenges our whole life. How we manage them is up to us.

We know this.

The glorious release – from the prison that unexpected change shackles us to – is in creating processes for creatively thinking about how to get through the one that just hit us.

Being organized helps us develop a filter for deciding which way to go moving forward – what to change and what to never change.

Without this decently tuned filter, we waffle, suffer, and rob ourselves of daily living in the moment – joy.

Today’s Shocking News

Today’s shocking news.

“You ain’t gonna live forever!”

Shocking?  Not in the usual sense of the word.

Shocking because of how rampant and perverse is the notion that we don’t plan for our death.

I mean, if you randomly asked 100 people, “When’s your funeral?”, how many would have an answer?

Of course, most people have no idea when, which is exactly my point.

Exactly.

But we’re all going to die.  It’s one of life’s great truths. And yet most people I know have no notion of how long they may theoretically have left.

So, my question then is this, “If your death happened sooner than you thought it would, what would you regret not having done?”
