If Disney Ran Your Life

Jody Maberry posted this on social media yesterday. It was fun to re-listen again. We recorded it at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club Convention Center.

If Disney Ran Your Life you would automatically be expected to set your five life bars (mind, body, spirit, work, home) to the highest level.

Nothing is optional.

Everything matters.

Deep in 2020’s Covid-19 outbreak, Lee Cockerell invited me to be his Guest on Creating Magic podcast. We talked for 15 minutes about If Disney Ran Your Life.

Home campfire chat

What time is it? Time to enjoy being organized.
Short video.

Campfire chats started when Jody and i realized we talked about how the season went – after the final season review episode – and thought it would be fun to hit the record button. Pull up a chair, log, rock, or ground and enjoy warmth, light, smells, nature, and whatever the conversation brings.

There is something subconsciencely primal about a campfire. Our oldest ancestors gathered around fire, for survival. We’ve had a fire pit in our yard since the 1990 lot purchase.

Home choices

Even technology at home has to be managed. There is a massive “other” storage file needing reconciling. Apple Genius appointment scheduled two weeks in advance to get the earliest time.

Home choices: intentional, unintentional, adversity, career path, unexpected opportunity, real estate economy, lifestyle, survival vs growth, purpose, passion, dreams.

Podcast reflection

Most of my passwords are 50 characters unless there’s a specific limit for a website/app.

Lee Cockerell told Jody Maberry to call me because Lee thought i could use a podcast. Jody and i quickly became friends, but it was 3.5 years before i broke down and agreed to launch a podcast. i didn’t want a podcast because “everyone has a podcast” – so formulaic. Fingernails across a chalkboard.

It was Lee’s son, Dan, who on his podcast, said balance is not possible that was the catalyst for me starting If Disney Ran Your Life. Needed an impossible goal (balance IS possible) to be the inspiration to approach podcasting differently.

Season 7/Work starts November 27. On Nov 28, 6pm, Season 6/Spirit goes in the vault.

Balance is not a myth. Personal vibrancy is the interconnectedness between mind, body, spirit, work, home.

Finally, Lee and Dan have incredible podcasts and i give their podcasts my highest recommendation.

Work setbacks & setups

Hand written diagram-note about focus groups

We did Guest focus groups in the 1990’s and discovered it was the little things that made Guests love us, and, it was also little things that made Guests “hate” us. Same with Zoom: some love Zoom, some hate Zoom.

Yesterday’s 90-minute virtual presentation required three consecutive days (4 hours total) prep with the Company’s chief IT officer.

Our Son left the house to take an online college test using his phone as a remote hotspot (ATT signal is weak at our home) for his laptop. Intentionally eliminating in-home bandwidth competition.

One minute in and my connection crashes. Quite the struggle that ended with a voice-only presentation – BUT – the IT officer had the detailed show notes and links. The videos, polls, pre-assigned Zoom breakout rooms, and Zoom audience debriefs were the saving grace to keep the visuals and state changes robust even with a voice-only speech. Plus, the predetermined personal stories shared were far more emotional than any slide presentation – there were zero slides, intentionally.

Work setbacks: recession, bull vs bear market, illness, tragedy, disruptions, competition, bankruptcy, poor leadership, wrong fit, poor judgement.
