Intelligent neglect

Intelligent neglect. Incredibly wise concept. Let them learn to fly on their own.

Intelligent neglect.

Give them roots and give them wings.

What?

Children.

Final 120 Days

Organized for the last 9 hugs

LinkedIn direct message
Because of my Disney association, i cross paths with many people and speak with many of them. Here’s a screen shot to capture a small moment in time last night. My message to Rafik is un-noteworthy. Rafik’s, on the other hand, is enlightening – he still remarks about “going the extra inch”.

Organized for the last 9 hugs.

We have five days next week, and four days your final High School week – the fifth day that second week there’s no school because of the evening graduation ceremony. So, nine hugs remaining.

Son, the few seconds it takes us to engage in an after school hug is perhaps the greatest of all the extra inches we could do.

Remember, we never let what we couldn’t do (something that required much more time and much greater effort to be memorable) stop us from what we can do.

Wisdom Day began March 6, 2017.

That was yesterday. Last night to be exact.

Made sure to create a calendar event entitled “Wisdom Day for Chapin”.

Last night’s conversation was significant. Chapin was on point, articulate, and grounded.

He also surprised me by saying, “The photos and written descriptions don’t align with who you are.”

Everything he said made sense and was spot on.

i told him to remember this day.

This is the day your wisdom begins for you.

PS. i posted all those photos (above) on facebook yesterday. That alone was not bad, what was misaligned was my motivation for posting them. It leaned to the side of sarcastic humor.

i removed all the photos and updates.

It was the right thing to do, even if Chapin was the only one who probably noticed.

Carving Out A Life

How organized do we have to be in order to be this?

Robin Williams on cover of People Magazine after his suicide

(photo: Life is tough and then you die… figure it out. You’re in charge of this. And life is unfair to all of us. Period.)

How organized do we have to be in order to be a very effective parent or leader?

When was the last time you gave (or received) meaningful, heartfelt feedback to a co-worker?

Yesterday?

Eighteen months ago?

Never?

Professional Speaker

Professional Speaker.

Know what that means? Duh, right?  Public speaker who gets paid…blah, blah, blah.

It means there are people who’s job is to give speeches. Everyday.

In front of people.  Sometimes a dozen, or several dozen. Sometimes a thousand, or several thousand.

And some of them really try to be so good at what they do (same as a parent, nurse, chef, etc) that their speech may actually start to change the world.

You know how I know this?  I’m one of them.  Happy day.  Carpe diem.
