An entrepreneur’s journey is difficult and lonely (and joyous)

An entrepreneur’s journey is difficult and lonely (and joyous).

The joy is high at the journey’s beginning because it’s an adventure.

Once the honeymoon-effect fades, it gets so difficult, somewhere north of 90% drop out.

This is where difficult and lonely become your traveling companions.

Travel with them long enough and and eventually you’ll see a horizon you had begun to doubt you’d ever.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Rejection and ridicule love traveling together

Walt Disney as boy
Walt Disney knew all about failure, and rejection. Photo source: Internet.

It’s been an interesting journey and i was reflecting on it yesterday when a LinkedIn connection said she reads my blog (as in singular).

All i could do was smile.

Why?

Because it almost takes a miracle for someone to figure out my blogging style on their own.

Interestingly enough, i no longer worry about it. That freedom from worry felt good.

No one has the context that one blog might lead to another blog by the same author, let alone four other blog posts (on four other websites) by the same author.

Being misunderstood, along with rejection, is part of the territory.

Also, having a vision that seems strange can label you as different, and leave you lonely. Feeling like an outlier is part of the journey too.

But the rejection and (invisible) ridicule are the bigger parts of the journey.

Radical ideas are always seen as crazy and stupid until enough time has passed (assuming the torch-bearer remains determined) for a critical mass to think it’s genius.

Do you need two iPhones?

What’s the difference between the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus?

You will never know the difference it will make for your business unless you take the risk. Is it worth the investment? There’s a sure fire way to tell. Invest the money and find out.

i do know two things about how i like to run my business:

  1. i dislike carrying things
  2. The iPhone 6s is on the small side

The third thing is that both phones fit in a pocket. Not even the iPad mini does that.

One more thing, one is a phone, one is a (small and mighty) computer.

Stuck, then suddenly not

Relaxing on a pool raft
Love being able to do this on weekdays, while most others are racing to work.

Making progress is probably the most motivating thing there is, especially when you’ve been stuck for longer than you thought was reasonable.

While working on a Saturday afternoon (yesterday) and into the night shouldn’t happen, i’m grateful that when inspiration struck, i was organized enough to go with it.

As an Orlando based motivational speaker

Downtown Orlando city projects

(photo: Orlando is having a downtown renaissance.)

As an Orlando based motivational speaker, the goal is greater impact with less travel. So many national and global conventions happen at Walt Disney World and Orlando.

The upside to being Orlando focused is the opportunity to create better, more compelling connections. Something that’s challenging to do when racking up Delta Skymiles.
