The world-famous Disney Point

Glacier Red Bus driver
To this day, i do not point with one finger. Not even in Glacier National Park.

The world-famous Disney Point.

It’s a thing.

Every Disney Cast Member learns it on day one in Disney Traditions, our version of borietantion (boring orientation).

Why?

It’s our fanatical attention to the smallest details.

This is an example of what i’m talking about at my new Podcast, If Disney Ran Your Life, on iTunes, Stitcher Radio, and Tune-In Radio.

Everything speaks at Disney

Disney's Wilderness Lodge light poles
Do these flowers help you answer where on Walt Disney World property are these light poles located?

Everything speaks at Disney.

The plants, the light fixtures, the rocks (or no rocks), the color of the walkways and what they’re made of.

Trash cans.

Everything.

A thousand things if not more.

No one notices though.

It’s expected.

Disney Guests only notice what we do when we don’t do it.

No one cares if you have a new Apple Watch 4

Disney Keynote Speakers
Pumpkins everywhere yesterday.

Disney Parade control
Disney Parade control preparations about to get underway.

Disney Parade control
Disney Parade control…these Disney stanchions are “taking the bus”.

Disney Parade control
Disney Parade control…this Disney stanchion is “taking a Limo”. The Disney Cast Member told me it’s Mickey Mouse’s stanchion. Who am i to question this?

Apple Watch 4
What time is the 3-O’clock parade?

No one cares if you have a new Apple Watch 4.

No one cares if you go to extraordinary detail for things like stanchions, and costumes, and background music.

But you carry on anyway.

Why?

Because aiming for perfection and settling for excellence requires resources and efforts (maybe an Apple Watch 4?) that others under-focus on or ignore.

Day To Day

Details are a virus

QuickBooks mail in receipts
A new feature from Quickbooks – mail them your receipts and they will automatically link it to the expense charge. One more way to become more efficient. How? The receipt happens in real time. The charge takes days to hit your account – this time-lapse creates the need for a search for every receipt for every charge. Nothing outrageous, but over time, takes time. Now i can send the receipt the day i take the photo. No more searching days later.

Details are a virus.

The paperwork of life – as CEO of You, Inc. – never stops.

This irrefutable fact does one of two things to people.

It buries them and causes lifelong stress.

It motivates them to find organized and scalable solutions.

It’s challenging work either way.

One way causes suffering.

One way causes freedom from this type of suffering.

PS. So far, Quickbooks has not delivered on the promise.

Disney taught me to do this without thinking about it

Rising Sun Motor Inn room view
Rising Sun Motor Inn corner room (#8) view.

The two advance calls paid off. We got the best room. It’s perfect. Remembering people’s names is so Magical. Remembering a little bit about them is also Magical.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.
