The one key action for getting and staying organized

Grinnell Glacier Overlook
Grinnell Glacier Overlook – a one-mile spur (each way) off Highline Trail, July 30, 2017. We decided to do it – making an 11-hour hike a 13-hour hike.

The one key action for getting and staying organized?

Make decisions.

Constantly.

Caught off guard and learning a lot about myself

Seth Godin quote
Do what you fear and the death of that fear is certain.

One door opens, another closes.

Finding a project manager was a blessing. This opportunity produced a new website, some sales sheets, and some logo samples.

Dear Son you will find that opportunity sometimes creates challenges, as surely as challenges often create opportunity.

This is my first experience were opportunity has created a scenario that is stretching me in unexpectedly uncomfortable ways.

The upside? It helped me see how high my expectations are and how patient i need to be while discerning these:

  • Pay by the hour
  • Pay a salary
  • Hire a replacement

It frightens me that i may be the issue.

It gives me solace that i am a good and decent person, leaning always to the more-than-fair side of things.

Meanwhile, i am graciously transitioning from paying a monthly salary in advance of any work being done to paying two-weeks in advance of any work being done and then moving to a traditional practice of receiving a work-completed invoice – for review before paying.

Seems more than fair.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Making decisions about things i never saw coming

Passport info
New Passport arrived yesterday, in half the time they promised.

Making decisions about things i never saw coming is interesting because i wrestle with accepting my ignorance, and rejoice with my discoveries (and growth).

It’s quite possible this year will see me pay out wages equal to or greater than my entire income last year.

Never saw it coming.

And now?

Now i can’t imagine making a difference without it.

PS. Just sent an email to someone i’m working with stating that it’s absurd to hire an amazing person and then tell them what to do. She is grateful.

So sure of ourself one minute, so afraid the next

Mickey and Minnie tee-shirts
We can only be or have one or the other, not both

When we set a big goal and prepare for it for several years, something obvious happens. Time passes.

And the closer we get the reality gradually amplifies.

To a fever pitch sometimes.

Ranging from feelings of separation (like from a sudden death) anxiety to unbelievable excitement for the next greatest adventure in life.

Not uncommon to change your mind several times in a single day. And each decision seems final, until it doesn’t again.

It feels like insanity sometimes.

So sure of ourself one minute, so afraid the next.

Why?
