Can you totally see this becoming society’s drug of choice?

Christmas day opening presents in America
Now…. Start… no?

Can you totally see this becoming society’s drug of choice?

Serving others.

Society is evolving and more people are creating their own contribution (by challenging the traditional work structure).

Driving them to do this is part of the new currency exchange.

The currency called a profound sense of contribution in exchange for the prevailing currency, money.

Jeff,

I think it is evolving that way to some degree. But in this “check box” society that we live in, the transition in the motive is slower to move. I know a lot of people that believe “serving” is the new “in” thing to do – they do it, they check the box that they did it, and then wait for some tangible reward (a pat on the back, recognition, a company “social responsibility” program, etc.). However, the next step in the servanthood transition is to serve, sometimes anonymously, and expecting no tangible reward in return. It moves from a transactional action to meeting the needs of others.

As you can see, this is something that’s been on my heart and mind in raising my two boys…in serving others without asking, “What are you going to do for me?” As I told my sons the other day, “Sometimes you do things to help others that no one in the world will know you did but God. Then, for sure, you won’t get the glory, but God. Your reward will be in Heaven.”

Bob, agreed.

A good indication of what we value as a society is found in a few key places.

Grocery store shelves and the media.

Capitalism is a great way to use healthy competition to improve things.

Our children (let’s hope and pray) are seeing that greed can overcome the original motive to improve things.
