Happy present moment

Deep breath.

Exhale.

Smile…

Happy present moment.

dad

Not sure if anyone ever made ‘happy present moment’ a saying. i did years ago. To this day it is a ‘go to’, suitable every day, all day.

Many years ago at Golds Gym, and many “Happy New Year” salutations ago, i asked Fred Drew (long time Disney colleague) for help with a dilemma. Some Gym members, because of our busy schedules, hadn’t been in the gym when i am there, since ‘last year’. In February, i’m still wishing those people i hadn’t seen since ‘last year’ a Happy New Year. In February, it seemed weird. Shared the weirdness with Fred. And by the way, Fred asked, “Are you a Buddhist?” Our relatively brief, but consistent gym conversations gave him this impression. Interestingly enough, Fred suggested i say to the gym regulars i had’t seen since ‘last year’, Happy present moment.

It stuck.

It’s prefect.

Year round.

This website is about our HOME. This is the fifth of five daily, differently-themed blog posts about: (1) mind, (2) body, (3) spirit, (4) work, (5) home. To return to Mid Life Celebration, the site about MIND, click here.

You were born to play

Literally every speech i deliver involves a selfie-moment. Over-focused so the audience has a tangible memory of the event. Work feels like play. This is a risk i took at TEDx AUK.

We experience time three ways:

  1. anticipate (future)
  2. activate (present)
  3. reflect (past)

Our perception of time is an unfocused mix of now, later, and gone.

Until we can unravel our own distractions and sabotage, we will never learn to live presently, mindfully, and peacefully.

We are born to play. It’s how we learn.

When we stop playing, we stop learning.

Three outta four

Omar Nour, 2019 TEDxAUK speaker one. Here, he’s having fun with Jack during our group AV check.

Three outta four podcasts we planned got recorded at Walt Disney World yesterday.

We finished the last three episodes of Season 4.

Didn’t make it to Fort Wilderness to do the first episode of season 5.

Maybe it was the wisdom of the Universe telling us to pause before beginning a brand new season with a brand new focus.

i trust what the Universe has to say but am not always present to listen.

Church at Home

Beginning the hour-long bike ride home last night.

Church at Home.

Religion is often full of habits and rituals.

There’s a reason for this.

The reason is that it maintains a standard, makes expectations and consequences clear, and allows for observable improvements to happen over time.

How we organize our home life – the structure and processes – for handling the administrative side of being a functioning member of society.

We can learn much from long-term sustainable structure and process.

We can also learn much from not being present, mindful, and motivated to change as times and conditions warrant.
