Ever make a plan or goal, and find yourself at a place one year later, and wonder where the time has gone?

And when you find yourself there one year later, do you celebrate your amazing accomplishment, or do you look back and realize that there was no progress whatsoever?

About one year ago, I looked back on 2008, and realized that I had failed.

Now, looking back at 2009, it’s time to celebrate.

The most amazing phenomenon?

Becoming an exception to the rule: the only Internet blogger who writes five daily blogs.

What Do You Know?

Ever wonder why some people or businesses behave or sound a certain way on the Internet?

There is a simple explanation for this. But most people are clueless.  And that’s okay.  You can’t know everything.

So, you want to know a secret?  The reason they do this?

SEO.  Search Engine Optimization.

It’s such an over-hyped catch-phrase that it almost doesn’t mean anything in today’s world.

The catch-phrase doesn’t, but the outcome does. It’s a strategic, competitive advantage.

The redundant use of important keywords.  In the title, body and tags is what baits search engines like Google, Yahoo, Bing and others, to move what you post higher on their search pages.

Here’s another little secret.  If you ain’t on the first page, you’re disadvantaged.

You know who ends up on the first page on Google, Yahoo, and Bing?

The people who work the hardest.

Google CEO Needs Coaching

Who needs a coach?  Do you need a coach?  Pretty sure I need a coach. In fact, after listening to Google CEO Eric Schmidt, I’m convinced.

Why?

Listen to Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, talk briefly, but accurately, about why people need a coach, and decide for yourself.

Good luck. Well, actually, luck has nothing to do with it. At least not until you have put in some serious effort. Then luck starts to work in your favor, but not before. Carpe diem.

jeff noel and Search Engines

jeff noel and Search Engines.  SEO. Search engine optimization.  Google. Yahoo, Bing. Safari. Firefox. Internet Explorer. Mozilla.  There are a ton of search engines out there.

Mostly, I use Google.  Why?  Google is the most recognized, and Google dominates search engine traffic.

Meeting with a fellow writer yesterday, he was using Yahoo. He told me that jungle jeff and Lane 8 we’re number one on the Yahoo search engine.  I didn’t believe him until he did the jungle jeff and lane 8 Yahoo searches.

Amazing.  Even more amazing, or maybe more interesting, was that on Yahoo, jeffnoel.org ranked higher than jeffnoel.com.  Not sure how that is possible.  And at this point in the journey, there are bigger challenges to worry about.

Do you have a decent prioritization matrix to handle cool distractions?  I do, but it only works about half the time.  🙂

Rules For Being Human

I’ve had this article for ten years, given by a friend. The author is unknown. Here it is in it’s entirety:

The question remains, despite all the work and inquiry of the researchers discussed in this column and countless others: How can we build committed, competent people and workforces?

I received the following as a handout at a class I attended;  the author is unknown.  Because these reflections give me solace, I am sharing them.

1.  You will receive a body. You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this time around.

2.  You will learn lessons. You are enrolled in a full-time information school called life.   Each day in this school you will have opportunities to learn lessons.  You may like the lessons, or you may think they are irrelevant or stupid.

3.  There are no mistakes, only lessons. Growth is a process of trial and error, of experimentation.  The “failed” experiments are as much a part of the process as the experiments that ultimately work.

4.  A lesson is repeated until learned. A lesson will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it.  When you have learned it, you can go on to the next lesson.

5. Learning lessons does not end. There is no part of life that does not contain lessons.  If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6.  There is not better than here. When your there has become here, you will simply obtain another there that will again look better than here.

7.  Others are merely mirrors of you. You cannot love or hate something unless it reflects to you something you love or hate about yourself.

8.  What you make of your life is up to you. You have all the resources you need.  What you do with them is up to you.  The choice is yours.

9.  Your answers lie inside you. The answers to life’s questions lie inside you.  All you need to do is look, listen, and trust.

10. You will forget all this.

jeff here again.  How was that for the first installment of “Too Long Tuesday”?
