It was roughly a three second mistake

It got down to 33 degrees last night/this morning.

calling AAA after accident
Accident happened at 5:43pm. First call, after Chris and i exchanged insurance information, lasted nearly nine minutes. Tow truck arrived after sunset.

We watched, in the correct order, the final three Star Wars episodes Thursday, Friday, and yesterday (Saturday).

When offered, he accepted the opportunity (with only an hour before showtime) to go see The Force Awakens (episode seven).

The transformation of Downtown Disney (which i knew like the back on my hand) to Disney Springs caught me off guard when the normal parking option was cut off.

In roughly three seconds of looking left to quickly assess the situation as we drove up the off ramp to the parking garage, it was too late to avoid a rear-end collision.

Taking solace in being a rare, speed-limit driver. The exit ramp was long and uphill, allowing for a gradual and natural deceleration.

Those two factors greatly reduced the severity of the impact.

On April Fool’s Day 2009, jeff noel began writing five daily, differently-themed blogs (on five different sites). It was to be a 100-day self-imposed “writer’s bootcamp”, in preparation for writing his first book. He hasn’t missed a single day since.

Replacement post today

The original post that went live at 12:05am this morning has been taken down.

Why?

It was deeply personal.

Maybe too personal.

The key insight today is that passion and compromise sometimes must find a way to coexist.

Organize your thoughts jeff, or get buried

The group goes out to dinner every Wednesday at 6pm. i arrived at 8pm, after not hearing anything.

Organize your thoughts jeff, or get buried.

Three nights ago, i had a parental meltdown.

Long story short.

Our 15-year old didn’t communicate and didn’t respond to my communications.

Compound this by a ripple effect of four other reliable communication options leading to dead ends.

i did not know where my son was and drove to the place they were supposed to be.

Nothing.

Rather than be cool, calm, and collected, i choose to reveal my anger and disappointment. i raised my voice, used profanity, got in his face.

When a parent doesn’t know where their child is and has no way of finding out, it’s the worst feeling in the world.

In no uncertain terms, this can never happen again.

Ever.

To make this point stick his options were:

Smash your iPhone 5 with this hammer, or no YuGiOh tournaments for a month.

The goal was to create a memory he will never forget.

And reinforce that no matter which consequence he picks, it would be a drop in the bucket compared to the consequences if it ever happens again.

i am not mad at him.

i’m embarrassed by my actions, but ok with them because i was intentional.

i take responsibility for never being more clear.

And i take solace now that there is no longer any lack of clarity.

Suddenly, there’s a massive threat and everyone runs

Disney Leadership expert speakers
The Disney Half-Marathon staff over-focuses on excellence, even at the water stations.

Big snow storm predicted for mid-Atlantic states today. Every winter this is a possibility. Quiz time…how prepared are you?

Same thing happens here in Orlando every late Summer, early Fall – hurricane season.

Suddenly, there’s a massive threat and everyone runs to the stores to stock up.

What if stocking up was a pre-season to-do habit?

Never in a million years

Disneyland Hotel
Minutes after checking in, we checked out our view of Disneyland and Downtown Disney.

Disneyland Hotel at night
Walking back from Downtown Disney at Disneyland.

If you asked me how many consecutive days i’ve blogged or how many total blog posts i’ve written, i couldn’t tell you.

So please hold on a minute while i do some math.

Ok:

  • 2,487 consecutive days to date
  • 12,435 total blog posts to date

Crazy to remember two things:

  1. Deep down, i didn’t think i could make it 100 straight days.
  2. i never had any intentions of blogging past the 100th day.

Certain life events happen to remind us that we are limited by our beliefs. So be careful what we believe.
