It’s so tedious, i run from it now

Quote about passion
From Facebook yesterday.

If we work to avoid criticism, we deny the beauty and greatness of what we set out to create when our youthful dreams ran wild and free.

Hello.

It’s difficult to gain busy people’s attention.

And i’m not very good at it.

Why?

Because it doesn’t light my fire.

In fact, it’s so tedious, i run from it now.

But when i first began blogging in 2008, i thought if you wrote it, people would come.

Now i realize that can’t be the goal (for starters, it’s a lie – most bloggers fail miserably, and then quit).

So what is the goal from writing everyday? The goal is to suck the marrow out of life. To live a life with no regrets. Writing somehow magically ignites that.

We’re all busy bees aren’t we?

Today’s five (differently-themed) posts have a hidden message in what would appear, to a person in a hurry, to be a boring personal account of one single day.

The people who will benefit from the hidden message will find this voice comforting, and quite possibly inspiring.

It ain’t for everyone.

In fact, i’m certain that only dreamers, misfits, rebels, and the more recently coined “outliers” will find refuge and hope here.

If you’ve made it this far, smile and pat yourself on your back.

Never let your memories be bigger than your dreams.

Now go, your day is waiting for you.

Cool weather and silly rewards

High School spirit week
Freshman jump to an early lead during Spirit Week.

Cool weather and silly awards. On the short drive home from the High School safety assembly, i stopped at Publix for a few groceries.

It was a surprising wonderful few moments.

Parking in the shade, the car windows already down, there was a great song on the radio. i sat in the car until it was over, and couldn’t remember the last time i did that without feeling the stress of being late.

The Fall air was cooled even further by the breeze and walking in in just a t-shirt felt wonderful.

Without a list, i grabbed a cart and began in the produce section and casually worked my way around.

Made (unrushed) small talk with employees at two stations. And had a nice talk with the young man who pushed the groceries to the car and loaded them in.

To top it off, as i turned onto our street, the family who will soon be breaking ground next to us sat on a blanket under an Oak tree – later they shared they were having a prayer service for all the animals (including the ants) that will be displaced by their future home.

In the absence of having all the answers…

reinventing selfies
How many of us are comfortable taking selfies from this angle?

In the absence of having all the answers…

We must forge ahead anyway. Making mistakes.

Making mistakes is one of the best indicators you are making progress.

We will never know what we are capable of until we discover we aren’t capable.

And then, oh and then…and then we can try again in a different way (risking another failure) and repeating this process until we eventually become capable at what we weren’t capable of.

We said it and taught it at Disney Institute

Jack the Teddy bear
Last night at ABE (Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton) airport, now called Lehigh Valley International.

Organize to maximize was a phrase we said (and taught) at Disney Institute. It’s the only way a photo like the one above was possible last night.

What this means is that i organized my creativity so that i could retire early from a 30-year career i adored.

And i organized my long-term plans in a creative way so that i could avoid regret.

The photo above happened because i was able to travel to Allentown on a moment’s notice, without having to check with “the boss”. i am now the boss.

Being organized means being intentional

Eagle Scout celebration cake
There are always many dessert choices. Plan accordingly while you’re getting your entree.

Being organized means being intentional.

Whenever you are at a buffet, make only one trip. Be intentional about your choices.

A second trip for food is not for sustanence, it’s for pleasure or to comfort pain or anxiety.

Being vibrantly organized means constantly making better choices than you used to – choices the herd no longer makes.
